I have a couple of C4040 and several C4004 I would like to sell, including a grey trace.

I appreciate the C4040s are very rare these days, and almost never come up for auction so I will be taking these auctions carefully to make sure everybody who is interested is aware.

Also a number of related chips : C8080A, C8008, C8008-1, C2102, C3101, C3002 (ES and normal), C3003, C4002-1, C1101, several C1103 (first ever DRAM, took me years of looking for these).

I bought all these around the 2001-2006 timeframe , in many cases I recorded the original Ebay auction as "provenance" so you can see who I bought from and at what price. Even back in 2005 I paid $200-$500 for the 4040s and 4004s.

What's the best way to sell these? Ebay or direct here (but with the high values of the C4040/4004 maybe best to do ebay?) Any tips to avoid bad transactions? I haven't sold anything very small and high value on ebay for a long time.

I have these mounted all together in a few cases in my home, I guess I should buy some more cases to be able to send them individually?

Also, back when I bought, there were no testers, so I'm not sure if they all work. Do people care these days?

Please reply if you have specific requirements and want to be notified once I list on ebay.

How would that work? Sounds a bit complicated to send to you, you send back to me, then I finally sell.
Are you still selling your tester boards, I see you made quite a few boards a few years back.
Thanks.

Looking forward to your sales.
Please notice the first time.
In addition, I am currently making a boutique chip protection display box.
It may help your sales.
The approximate price is $3 each, not including shipping.
If you are interested, I will make a DIP protection display box for you as soon as possible.
The figures are two examples that have been made.

It's fairly important for such expensive chips that they are guaranteed to work. Not so much because people will use them, but a chip that works definitely isn't fake. No one wants to spend $1,000 on a CPU that's just a remarked $1 RAM chip. If you were to sell them here, CPUShack also does escrow for these sort of bigger deals. The buyer would send the money and you would send the chip to him. Once it's tested he would forward the chip to the buyer and the money to you (minus his fee). That way there would be less handling, and less postage for you to deal with to have them tested. It would remove a lot of risk for you too in terms of fraud on these bigger deals.

Some testers are available, but not 4004/4040 ones currently

That's interesting. I'm thinking about a PDF test report (at all testing frequencies w/ power consumption report and benchmark) that could be generated after testing with the UCA.

You can try sell them first here and if something will left then go to eBay.

Good protection for shipping is must for all chips especially for those extreme fragile and expensive.

You can try selling them as not tested and see if people is still interested. If there will be serious buyer who want only working units then you can ask someone with tester for a tests. CPUShack have tester, me too and many other memebers here. Shipping is always risk but sometimes no other option.

If you decide to put them on eBay first then here is a forum section for a auction links.

I also would be interested in these display boxes for my rarer chips.
Small and large sizes would be great a idea! Very Happy
How about one for the MCS-4 set?

As Marcin said, post your Ebay auctions in the Auction links section of the Forum and members will be notified.

Under design. Some minor issues still need to be resolved.
