NASA searches the web for old hardware

The National American Aerospace Agency (NASA) hopes to use the Internet to find computer parts that provide technical support and operation of the agency's shuttle, which launched 20 years ago. The hardware used in these computers is currently out of production.
NASA requires Intel 8086 chips and eight-inch floppy drives. These chips were used by the agency in 1981, among other equipment, for testing missile safe launch systems. The same equipment for testing is still in use today, and therefore the Americans needed old Intel chips.

If the necessary "hardware" is found, the life of the (Space) shuttle, which was originally planned to be used until 2012, will be extended until 2020.

NASA plans to list its bids on eBay and Yahoo!

Based on materials from Silicon.com

The root of the UCA was actually used to extend the life of a very old space program Smile

NASA didnt have any, they were for ground simulators and other related gear mostly, so didnt have to be rad-hard, just milspec and not fake
