Hi all,
I'm interested in becoming an engineer on CPUs, could you please recommend novels/books that I could start to learn about 2010s+ modern processors?
Is there a good 101 textbook? I have 1-2 years java coding and minor robotics exp as a hs senior.
Lastly, which college major will lead me down this path?
Thank you very much, I just joined and I'm exploring the threads. |

College Major, for some time (and probably still) Intel was hiring any college major in the sciences, even things like Biology.
They can teach you the particulars of making CPUs, but wanted a science background as that gave you the foundation of learning.
Generally Physics and Computer Engineering is a good mix _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!

| I'd suggest you approach potential employers and ask them what they are looking for. We could provide educated guesses for you, but do you really want to spend years learning and pay for courses based on the suggestions of some forum folk, only to find out we were wrong? |

| Hennessy & Patterson's book, "Computer Architecture: A Quantitative Approach" is a standard textbook on CPU architectures. |

| I recommended Computer Engineering. I took that major which later switched to Electrical Engineering before I dropped out. |
