Last night I started testing and erasing a box full of old hard drives. Was doing it in my main PC. Some drives had eti partitions, which could only be removed by deleting partition tables. Part of the process involves secure cleaning of all sectors.
This morning, I discovered I had accidentally erased the partition table of the drive which contains all my downloaded apps, source code, hardware drivers, etc, which had not been backed up due to lack of blank BDRs.
Last year I had a few drive failures, so had learned how to recover data of hard drives without SMART failures, so fortunately am able to recover most, if not all, file. Spent the last 12 hours working on it, and the app has a few more hours to run. Then I have to check every file on the drive and redownload any that have got corrupted, so I don't think I'll have time to get bored over the weekend.
Only thing I am hoping is that I haven't lost the file containing my latest updates for gpuzoo, as the last copy I can salvage if that is lost is 2 months old!
Damn, I feel foolish for wiping old drives on my main system _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

Of course, there is one good thing that could come of this. I will be able to call myself a data recovery expert soon, all I need is to figure out how to recover data from drives with SMART failures _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

LOL. It has shown me again how smart my backup policy has been
15 hours, and it seems to have recovered everything. Won't know for sure until I test everything that can be tested. I'm relieved I do have some unknown zip and other files to check though, but that's no big deal. No idea where the directory full of AVI files (including some P6 promo files) came from! _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

They came in a scrap lot, so I am wiping them to protect the original owners. I always salvage data before wiping my own disks. _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

Always a good thing, who knows what one would find
my policy for my scrap clients is I dont reuse their hard drives, they all get destroyed, they are happy about that lol _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!
