After reading the thread, I started thinking about taking the die picture.

I first tried with mySONY P-100 digital camera and it not too bad, but I wanted to try with a better camera.

The following two are phtoes of an Intel 80486 DX 33Mhz using Sony P-100.

It took me a while before I finally got a DSLR camera (thanks to recent slow eBay activity).

I got Nikon D50 and result got better just with 18-50mm Kit lens.

But then, I bought a couple close-up macro lens and added them all on, and I got even more detailed picture.

Please note that the focus becomes blurred at lower part of the photo; that's because the die is actually larger than the focus region of my close-up lens.

If I just focus on one corner and it looks not too bad at all.

Finally, I put up all the lens to see how much I can enlarge. The result was bad. Because lens become too long (like a canon) and the light kinda got blurred.

Please compare the two following photos; those are the right upper corner of the CPU die.

Err. What do you mean by special? I just use camera lens mentioned above (including macro/ close-up lens). Of course those lens did not come with the camera, you have to buy them individually.
