Assuming that no overheating or throttling happens, the Core i7-2640M would be a decent upgrade over the Core i3-2328M. I personally think that it's not much of an improvement, but as long as your usage of this laptop isn't heavily centered on gaming, you should be fine.

If your LifeBook AH512 is capable of keeping the processor's temperature down to a tolerable level, you might want to look into ThrottleStop to force the 2640M to always utilize Turbo Boost (3.3 GHz on 2 cores and 3.5 GHz on 1 core). This will provide more performance at no cost, with the exception of increased heat production.

According to a system report, the Satellite C55-A is capable of using a 45 W processor. However, this particular model appears to have an updated UEFI (20140422, v1.40) in comparison to the stock dual-core configurations in that website which are mostly running the older UEFI versions.

That makes me wonder, did you update the UEFI before you installed a 45 W processor of any kind into your Satellite C55-A?

Very interesting. I did update the UEFI roughly a year ago to 1.40. The 45 W Chip I've tested is also a 3610QM. Turning on, then off after a second is really odd if it is a bad chip, and it's quite rare for non-OC'd chips to die.

One noteable difference is that the reported C55A has an embedded GPU, while mine is utilizing the iGPU exclusively. This would warrent its own Motherboard, UEFI, and cooling solution.

I have bought the 2620m at a decent price (the seller accept returns)

I will know if it works!
