My bet is either a really low tier chip, like an E5-2603, or some sort of early unbootable ES.

Well it would probably have to be an unmarked sample, given that the IHS's are soldered on, and these don't look particularly tampered with. I can't see them restoring the nickel plating with any form of ease (though if you know how to do this, please share....)

Isn't there some way to sand or otherwise remove the original markings of the IHS? Because I know a lot of marked QS chips get relasered with retail markings.
