AMD designed Socket F to be used for more then just CPUs, though in reality this didn't happen much

There was a few though

Spansion also made some Socket F chips, but I haven't found much info on them

Cray also made some socket F chips. I recall a few past eBay listings.

Wow see this "CPU" first time Shocked I have one Socket-F motherboard. Very interesting will this cpu or what is this? I do not understand completely will work in ordinary boards?

Are we talking about Socket F or LGA-1208 package ?

They typically are custom chips rather then CPUs.
They were mainly made to take advantage of HyperTransport, where the CPU socket is really just one interface to the HyperTransport bus, so things that needed fast access to the rest of the system (its CPUs and memory etc) things like extra multiprocessing support, or networking, or memory controllers etc
