Simple Solution, one is made in the USA, the other in the Philippines.

In August of 1995 Intel started removing dash characters in part numbers of all products:
| Quote: | DESCRIPTION / BENEFITS OF CHANGE:
Removal of dash (-) in Marketing product name, product name marked on units, and product name
marked on labels.
BENEFITS:
1. Consistency across all Divisions/All products on marking and labeling.
2. Does not affect the way the customer orders product today, which is without the dash. |
This change was completed November 27 1995, so there shouldn't be any Pentium CPUs and other chips with '-' produced after that date. I guess this explains why some late 80386 (like this one: http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/80386/Intel-A80386DX16.html) and 80486 processors don't have a dash between DX/SX/EX/... and frequency.
