Hello guys!
I try to find logic and patern to run the same HDD/SSD with the same OS like Windows 9x/XP(most actual)/7(32-bit ver.) but with different CPU's.
What is the main reasons to sustem faild to but??
Different chipset? Differces in CPU architecture?

And,yes. I'm asking couse i find weird things which I cannot explain.
Where I predicted a blue screen all goes right.

I will be glad to know your opinion.
With kind regards,ApostolCV.

The best way to go about this would be to keep it to one install per motherboard.

Switching CPUs is something that Windows usually tolerates just fine (depending on generation, win10 has some issues with certain Pentium D and P4 chips on 775 boards).

Switching motherboards is much flakier in my experience, often needing some driver removal in safe mode and a whole lot of prayer. ESPECIALLY in XP.

Of course this would mean needing more than one HDD/SSD. If you are using these systems exclusively for CPU performance testing, you could pick up a bunch of used Intel 40GB SSDs (or compactflash cards if performance isn't too critical). SATA->IDE adapters work wonders with older systems (keep in mind most of those won't support TRIM so you may wear out the SSDs quicker if you are doing write-intensive testing)

I have used single SSD with WinXP for all Intel systems from P4 to Haswell without problems. No problems in changing CPU or RAM or even motherboard.
Maybe the only problem is HDD controller drivers, if WinXP can't find it, it gives blue screen/crashes. But upto Haswell (?) there is option in BIOS to use legacy mode (usually called IDE mode in BIOS) instead AHCI and in legacy mode XP works directly.
