| There is a seller on ebay with many of these. He sells them for $29.99 each the last time I looked. |

| Remember that Nexgen chips did not use standard sockets so Nexgen designed thier own motherboard chipsets as well. This is the Nexgen motherboard chipset. This one was for Vesa Local Bus. I think there was PCI version of the chipset. |

It's only the chipset, yes.
On the PCI motherboards the chipset is in a standard plastic package.

I don't think Nexgen NxVL is rare. Someone asked me if I'm interested for 10 EUR. I think that is max price for that chipset. 30 USD is "crazy eBay" price _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

Ahh I see that Nexgen used an Intel PCI bridge.
I love old motherboard photos! I wish there was a forum just for old motherboard photos! |

I got two Nexgen VL boards with Nx 586 P90 CPU yesterday(about 35 USD totally).they are the same boards as the minuteman's . However, the socket for NxVL is empty. The man told me that these two board was working-pull .
So these board could work without the NxVL chips?! (just disable the VL function ?)
I do some google but do not find the answer.
I am planing to have these board fire on again. But i just wonder now which type of RAM i should use. FP or edo ? with or without parity check ?
Thanks in forwards!

No! Definitely not. Without a NxVL chip, the motherboard won't work.

Except for the newest PCI boards, all NexGen boards require FP (fast page mode) RAM. But in practice, all the EDO RAMs is tried did work, too. Of course, there is no speed gain over FP, but EDO are much more common an thus easier to get.
For details, look into the Nx586 VESA/ISA System Board User's Manual.
When you succeed booting the boards, please check the BIOS version for me. It is displayed on the screen while booting and looks something like "005q033s" or "v06e033w". If your version is not listed on my web page I'd like to get a copy! |
