|
|
I have this 'invoicing' machine , made in Romania in 1982. I checked the boards and i found that it's using an unusual type of memory. The ancestor of EPROM ... It is manually programmed by inserting magnetic pins in the right holes... This technology was used in some Frieden machines built in the '70s... I couldnt find any info on the internet and dont even know the name of this technology. Can anyone help me, please, with some infos? Thanks.. _________________ https://www.facebook.com/CPUCollectionRO |

| Wouldn't this be a variant of magnetic core memory pretty much? Still pretty neat, I've never seen this before. |

I would say very different from core memory. These magnetic pegs seem to be acting as switch contacts to form a ROM, rather than storing magnetism to create RAM.
Thank you for sharing. I've never seen this before, although I have seen ROM cards where all of the contacts are bridged, and links are selectively removed or cut by machine. I saw that in a game teleprinter once as a font card, although I can't remember the name of it now. |

it's a ROM memory, seems to be 256 bytes .. but that was all i could find... here are the pages from machine's manual... _________________ https://www.facebook.com/CPUCollectionRO |

Yes, this is the Programable ROM. Ferrite pegs as store elements.
Similar type of electronic invoiced machine "Iskra-23"

I have also never seen one of these, quite interesting!
From schematics it seems the peg is working as a core to the transformer built into the PCB. Most probably ferrit which increases coupling when inserted...
