Hello all,

I have an issue with a motherboard I just setup to update my system,

I had a socket 775 motherboard which ran fine and decided to replace it with a decent second hand occasion (LGA1150 i5)

Everything ran fine the first boot and I could boot up to Win10 but after first reboot the PSU died on me and, I think, fried the motherboard

I ordered a new PSU and the motherboard still power cycles, always one small shot without reaching any beep, and one longer shot with bios screen then reboot & repeat...

Old motherboard works fine with the new PSU

Is there a way that there would be a solution like a protection circuit to reset or anything? The issue is also coincident with a CMOS reset...

If anyone has pointers, it would be great... currently trying to find a decent replacement board

Sounds like a real dead mobo. You can try only this : unplug everything from mobo except power switch. Switch on and hold it for 60s and connect everything again. This method will help disscharge all caps and reset drivers. But I think you have fried IC/ICs and without professional diagnose we will not able to do anything.

I think about the same...

The best that could have happened is that there is only a capacitor blown by the surge, but then I have to find it and it is not a small feat... at least I have a CPU and a cooler, but at 60€ for an i5-4670K and a CoolerMaster it is not such a great deal anymore...

I have the option of NOS motherboards on ebay and amazon but they are not cheap... I had a look at ebay.de as they usually have interesting sales but waiting for answers to my inquiries...

I hope I will score a cheap one as I already spent 200€ on that upgrade (also bought a new PSU, RAM and a tower lol)

Intel old boards are unfortunely more expensive than AMD because they were more popular and now when they are dying people doesn't want to reinstall OS and software and they are buying used old board in price even higher then for a new one.

I use PC only for web browsing, photos editing and listening music so in my opinion there is no sense to buy used parts. For new mobo 36 months of warranty + cheap i3 is enough.

I have chosen this solution to have a more decent system at a budget price, I had a tower and psu to go and it was only 60€ for the CPU + mb + cooler which was a good deal for a newer generation

My old xeon setup is honestly reaching some limits and becomes slow even for browsing the web

So far so good, I have had some luck finding a thread online on some forum discussing the exact same issue as mine on another Gigabyte model with dual UEFI bios

It happens that sometimes when doing a CMOS reset the bios data can be corrupted on this generation of boards, and a restore of the original bios can be triggered by holding RESET + POWER ON ten seconds, then powering on again.. it then reboots one time and gets you to an invite where you are asked to restore the corrupted bios

Lucky me, it was actually the case and I now got a fully working (and upgradeable) system!
