|
|
Hi everyone, for sure you can help me.
I have a notebook (COMPAL NBLB2) with a 1st generation cpu i7-820qm DTP 45w and 45nm technlogy, socket rPGA 989 (but intel.com shows a PGA988); motherboard chipset Intel DMI Host Bridge e Southbridge PM55; BIOS Insyde F.10; the graphic card is an ATI HD5650
i was thinking if it's possible to replace it with a i7-3840QM.
Ur suggestions? |

You can't upgrade to second generation (i7-2xxx) and third generation (i7-3xxx) processors. They use different socket.

but looking at this page
www .intel. com/support/it/processors/mobile/corei7/sb/cs-030872.htm?wapkw=i7+820qm
(remove the blank spaces) it seems they have the same socket. Am i still wrong? |

Core i7-820qm has the same number of pins as the i7-3840QM, but they are positioned differently, such that the i7-3840QM won't fit into the socket.

There is one more powerful proccessor for that socket, the i7 840qm _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

Core i7-920XM and i7-940XM may also work. They have higher TDP so they will run hotter when loaded. As for the i7-920XM /i7-920XM overclocking... If your laptop was not shipped with extreme processors then your BIOS may not have an option to overclock the CPU.

as you can see, i'm not so geek to overclock a system
i would give a chance to the 940xm, i don't think i would stress it to the maximum... BUT THE PRICE!?! it seems still so high! |

It's very likely that HP has locked out 55W CPU's on your motherboard. The 840QM will be the highest performing chip in that case. |
