Refurbished chip or re-labeling? I would understand in a ceramic package. When the package is more expensive than the die.

Do you have a picture of the 'original' CPU when it wasn't ground away? I'm not sure what to think of this chip: the outer plastic shell looks identical to my Siemens SAB 8088-1-P (this CPU); meaning it also has the slot on the left and the two round pieces. _________________ thandor.net - hardware

Usually they just repaint them. Its not uncommon even on PDIPs for refurbishment (or if the marking got damaged)
Is it a working CPU?
Perhaps it had originally been labeled with a house # and got remarked to standard markings? Or was a higher speed device that didnt pass well enough and got down rated? _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!
