I'm upgrading a laptop for a friend, sporting an i5-2410M. It has 4GiB of RAM, but only as one module. I have loads of 2GiB laying around, so I considered popping in one of those. But will this enable a somewhat higher memory speed as they will be on two different memory channels, or will it run it as a single channel as modules are different in size?
Primary upgrade will be an SSD, though, so memory might not matter that much |

| Ideally you'd want two identical 4GB modules, 4GB is rather anemic these days. |

I absolutely don't disagree, but biggest leap for this particular laptop will be replacing the mech harddrive with an SSD. The memory was just because "I have some spare" so 6 GiB will still be better than 4 |
