|
|
Inspired by Carlos S. M.'s SL7QB/SL7Q8 Compatible boards list, I wanted to do the same thing with the Early Amd Athlon 64s ADAAA2800ACN5 with the AAABB Stepping Code (Socket 754). I suppose that the list would also apply to AAACB Cpus; I do have one but don't really bother to test it too, assuming that both are indistinguishable for the motherboard.
I am looking for a MicroAtx board (ideally Nf4, or at least with Integrated Graphics with Wddm Drivers, but I heard that Nf3 have issues with Vista+) that supports AAABBs, and also Windows 8 x64, which is why I am testing several motherboards... But so far no success, I found only one MicroAtx board working with the ADAAA2800ACN5 and of course it had to be unable to load Windows 8 for some reason -_-
I found one that supports both, but it is Atx...
My goal is to run the most modern x64 stuff with the oldest possible x64 Cpu... And MicroAtx because I can fit them in very small cases and always considered that Atx is too big...
Btw I am willing to sell some unsuccessful motherboards if you need a 754 platform...
If you have an AAABB or AAACB and a motherboard not in the list, and can check if the Cpu works, I would be glad to hear about it!
Even if the motherboard is not MicroAtx or if using an Opteron AAABB/AAACB.
I wonder what causes the failures... Two motherboards with the same chipsets might or might not work, it can fail on an old model but work on a recent one, could Bios Mods make the Cpu work, or is there some unsolvable hardware incompatibility...
Downgrading Bioses does not seem to help. And of course when I had such access on a failing board, I tried a lot of Bios Settings.
In all cases, they worked perfectly with an usual ADA3200AEP5AP.
Italic: MicroAtx Board
Working
Asus K8V-MX (Via K8M800)
Biostar K8NHA-M Grand (Nvidia NForce3 250)
DFI LanParty UT nF3 250Gb (Nvidia NForce3 250Gb)
ECS 755-A2 (Sis 755)
ECS 761GX-M754 (Sis 761GX) (but not with 070227 Bios: Hangs during Post)
ECS RS482-M754 (Ati RS482)
Gigabyte GA-K8N51GMF (Nvidia NForce4) (F9 Bios, did not work with F4 Bios: No Post)
MSI K8T Neo (MS-6702) (Via K8T800)
Not 754 but the S2882-D Thunder K8SD Pro (Amd 8131) works well with Dual OSADA242CCO5 AAABBs.
Not Working
Abit KV8 Pro (Via K8T800 Pro) - Hangs during Post
AsRock K8NF4G-VSTA (Nvidia NForce4) - No Post, but may boot just after a Clear Cmos, or three boot failures, but very unstable and quickly freezes after booting Windows
Asus K8V-VM (Via K8M890) - Posts, but cannot boot anything, even Floppies
Asus K8N-VM (Nvidia NForce4) - Posts, but cannot boot anything, even Floppies (stuck at Blinking Underscore)*
Foxconn 6100K8MB-RSH (Nvidia NForce4) - No Post
MSI K8TM-ILSR (MS-6741 Without Integrated Graphics) (Via K8T800) - Posts, but cannot boot anything, even Floppies
MSI RS480 (MS-7145) (Ati RS480) - Hangs during Post; I suppose that the 482 variant would do the same...
* Motherboard turned out to be Dying on Arrival and completely stopped working after a few more Boots. The problem could then be caused by the defect rather than an incompatibility, though I was able to boot on an Usb Stick with another Cpu before the AAABB and once after, so I think that it is indeed incompatible, but given the situation it is not 100% certain and an identical Motherboard should be retested to be sure. _________________ Stelo.xyz Museum (CPU Collection and more)

I have tested ADAAA2800ACN5 with only the AAACB Stepping Code (Date Code 0301) in the DFI LanParty UT nF3 250Gb motherboard.
I do not yet have a stepping AAABB processor to test. |

Got two more 754 Motherboards... More luck this time !
The Asus K8V-MX was Tested Working with both AAABB and AAACB, with the 0204 Bios it came with and the latest 0501 BĂȘta one.
The other is an Ecs 761GX-M754. It is the Acer (Aspire T136) Oem variant, but at the Hardware level, it seems that the Acer and the Vanilla Ecs are just Palette Swaps with few components slightly moved, and I was able to flash the Vanilla Bios on the Acer motherboard.
The AAABB and AAACB worked fine with the Acer Bios it came with and the 060502 Bios.
But they hang with the latest 070227 one during the Post!
So now we know that the incompatibility can definitively be caused by the Bios rather than some hardware incompatibility. Now go figure what exactly prevents proper operation with these Early Athlon 64s...
I would love to see a Bios Mod that would allow the AAABB to work on the AsRock K8NF4G-VSTA if that were possible!
And both Motherboards work with Windows 8 so I found what I wanted if I settle for using a dedicated card for Wddm, let's put something with Hdmi then...
I am not going to buy any more Socket 754 Motherboard, but I am still interested to hear about other motherboards that support these Cpus.

I do not yet have a stepping AAABB processor to test. |
I did not retest with all my 754 motherboards, but it seems that they have the same behavior, if the AAABB works then the AAACB too and vice versa. I renamed the topic to take this in account. _________________ Stelo.xyz Museum (CPU Collection and more) |

I have tested 2 processors:
ADAAA2800ACN5 AAACB 0301WPBW
ADAAA3100ACN5 AAACB 0251SPBW
in 3 motherboards:
DFI LanParty UT nF3 250Gb - nvidia nForce3 250Gb - BIOS 20050623
Abit KV8 Pro - Via K8T800 - BIOS #16 20040729
ECS 755-A2 - SiS 755 - BIOS 1.0b 20040625
Both processors behaved the same:
DFI working
Abit not working, hangs during POST
ECS working
I ran the CPU-Z 2.01 internal benchmark on ADAAA3100ACN5 with these results:
DFI on Win Vista 32-bit - benchmark 17.01.32 score = 44.2
ECS on Win 7 64-bit - benchmark 17.01.64 score = 72.6 |

Cool, thank you for sharing! Updated.
Did not know that an ADAAA3100ACN5 AAACB existed, I wonder if a faster variant of the ADAAA2800ACN5 exists as AAABB as well. _________________ Stelo.xyz Museum (CPU Collection and more) |
