I had an IBM system come in that wasn't functional,
so I took it apart to see what CPU it had. I think that
this is a Power5 2 way processor! It was a bugger to
get out but my heat gun pre-vailed in the end!
This came out of an IBM 9111-520. Power 520?
The planar board was an IBM 80P6725. One half of
the heat sink said - IBM 1614 21K1692 on line 1 and
BEE10M3107 on the second line.
Sadly, two of the capacitors stayed with one of the
heat sinks. I guess I didn't get that one hot enough?
I kept the heat sink with the two embedded cap's though.
The ceramics are nice and white and hardly a chip which
was a nice surprise considering how hard it was to get
the two heat sinks off!

Nifty! I've recently started using a convection oven for chip recovery and die extraction. Have to cut a few boards to fit, but I find the consistent heat in an enclosed space very effective.
I'm sure this thing was way too big unless it was a processor card. |

It was a full size server motherboard. Definitely wouldn't
fit in an easy bake oven. |
