I pulled several of these CPUs out of set-top boxes, and then I noticed that they require 1.6v core voltage.

From my experience playing with K6-2+ cpus I know that few socket 7 boards even support as low as 2.0v core voltage.

So, I wonder if these are die-shrunk K6-III cpus ( 0.18 micron, like the + models, but without mobile PowerNow function.)

I haven't been able to find any info about these cpus on the internet. I have seen several of them on eBay, though. I wonder if the buyers realize you can't use them in regular socket 7 boards without modification?

I forget what the name of the manufacturer was that made the set-top boxes. I'll post it when I remember.

These are embedded K6-III+ processors, or K6-IIIE+:

I don't know why the part numbers on the chip and in the datasheet are different ("K6-III+" and "K6-IIIE+").

Come to think of it, they were K6-III+, I just forgot.

Still, they had no "E" designation, although those are obviously what they are.

I take it they are not very rare?

They are relatevely rare. I saw a few of them on eBay in the past few months, they can also be bought on the internet. I can post a link if anybody is interested. BTW, when I say "rare" it means "hard to find for a collector who doesn't want to spend on the chip double or more of eBay price".

Looks like this guy got the chip to post at 1.8v... at 550Mhz, even.

I don't think I have a board that will do 1.8v... I will have to check. Maybe I can get one of them to boot without a VRM!
