I have just photographed these and as I was processing the photo's I noted something I have not seen before.
The top of the SX750 shows an "L" before the date code which normally signifies that it was made in Malaysia yet the bottom shows "A4" which normally means made in the USA.
The top of the SX953 shows an "C" before the date code which normally signifies that it was made in USA yet the bottom shows "Malay" which normally means made in Malaysia.
Has anyone come across this before????

Hi,
Don't be angry. I believe the SX953 is fake cpu because the text of the front(Please note the comma) and back is clearly reprinted.
And the SX750 is really strange. The text and the datecode is matched, no unusual found on text.
Hope this helps.

Why would I be angry?????
These were included in a box of CPU's I purchased here in New Zealand last week from a Used Computer Dealer so I doubt that they are fake.
As I stated in my earlier post I only picked up on the discrepancies on the country codes when I was processing the photo's as I normally name the photos using the CPU Part Number, S Spec, Country of Manufacture & Top or Bottom of the chip.
But I am open to being proven wrong here.

Hmmmm When I say a Used computer dealer in New Zealand I mean a one man band and in this case in a very small 2 horse town. There is no way he would have purchased it from a distributor. The most likely scenario is that he has upgraded someone's computer at some stage a long time back and tossed the old CPU in a box.
No one in New Zealand would have the technology to create a fake and China is a long way away.
The chip structure looks normal, ie It looks to be the normal thickness and color etc but I'm no expert on fakes by any means.

I'd say the SX953 is suspect. The printing on the top looks poor (although that could be the distortion from the close-up), the bottom has been polished and reprinted with poor quality ink - unlike any I have seen on over 100 different 486 sspecs. The dates are a little close as well. The SX750 looks ok to me. I have seen many variations on the FPO prefix and markings on the bottom - forgive me if I dont trawl though the chips I have to find them now. I'll post them when I do though!
The fact that it doesn’t appear on this sites spec database is irrelevant. |

The speed stamping on the bottom - the i50 and i66 you see on 486's looks like an attempt by Intel to stamp out ( pardon the pun ) grey chips and fake/remarked chips. |

hmmmm, Well I did a google search on "sx953" and that appears to be a legitimate S Spec for a A80486DX2-66 so my thoughts are that the Chip is genuine although I agree with you about the bottom having been polished prior to printing.....Seems a bit strange. Actually Wondering if a US Plant had a problem Producing Chip Carriers at some stage and imported some from their Malaysian Plant.

I'd say your 80486 is a fake. Look at a digit "3" in S-Spec number and in a year. "5" also looks different. The lid on the back looks like it was polished and then new markings were stamped on it. Copyrights on the front and the back of the chip are different.
Edit: I was commenting on your SX953 chip.
