| Hello, I would like to increase the speed of my Toshiba satellite c660d-14c PC by adding RAM to it. It currently has 2g. How much can I add to it and can I change the processor? If so, what power? |

Unfortunately the CPU is soldered to the motherboard on that particular system (Should be an AMD E-240), so there is no real easy upgrade available there.
You could probably install at least 8GB (2x 4GB) RAM without any real issues. Possibly up to 16GB if you were so inclined.
That machine is not going to run Windows very well though, regardless of how much RAM you put in it.
You could eek by on some version of Linux. Swapping out the drive for a SSD would certainly make an improvement.
However at that point, you may be able to buy a whole other better laptop cheaper. _________________ My collection |

Yeah I must agree with crazy there. In my experience AMD's E-series processors are pretty unusable no matter what upgrades are done, especially since the one in your laptop is only a single core. I had a desktop with a dual-core E1-1500 and 4GB memory, the CPU was pretty much floored browsing Windows 10 with no other programs running. _________________ My Collection Archive |

Two 8 GiB 2Rx8 DDR3-1066 SO-DIMMs. That's the highest you can go.

Yes, if you swap the motherboard out for the S1g4 variant and buy an S1g4-compatible processor. Some Satellite C660Ds were factory equipped with a V140 or an Athlon II P340/P360, that would be what you're looking for as those had a PWWAA LA-6843P motherboard with an S1g4 socket. Remember to replace the original heatsink with the matching heatsink (AT0HD0010C0) meant for those motherboards, if you choose to perform this modification.

That'd be the Phenom II P960 if you have the S1g4 motherboard, any faster and you may run into overheating issues. The heatsink was never designed to cool 35W or 45W processors. |

That's a lot of work considering the machine was released in 2011 and was a bargain budget machine even back that that got terrible reviews. Even with a new board and Athlon II P series chip, it'd run Win 10 like garbage. |

Mavro is right... it's basically manufactured e-waste sadly. Unless you have an emotional sort of connection with the device it's not worth upgrading. $20 for a CPU, $50 for a socket motherboard, $15 for an SSD, $15 for memory... I'd suggest getting a used ThinkPad X240 off eBay that has a much better CPU, memory and SSD upgrade already done for 80 bucks. _________________ My Collection Archive |
