Advanced Micro Devices' Am286ZX and Am286LX microprocessors offer support functions for a 286/AT motherboard along with the Intel 80286 processor on a single chip. The Am286ZX/LX offer a number of peripheral functions that include interrupt control, DMA control, clock generation, bus controls, a DRAM interface, counter/timers, EMS support, and 80287 coprocessor support. Both versions come in 12 and 16 MHz speeds, with the LX aimed at the laptop market, and the ZX aimed at desktop microcomputers. Only a keyboard controller, an optional coprocessor, and memory are required to produce an AT ...
