I found an ASUS TMA-PL Socket 370S Timna motherboard and got it working with a QV18 Timna sample. Initially the board would not power on, but replacing the CMOS battery did the trick. The Intel Timna graphics drivers for Win9x work correctly and I was able to run a few 3DMark tests to verify. The onboard audio and most chipset features work fine. I had some issues with the onboard NIC and PS/2 mouse port, but just chose to not use them.

The board uses SDRAM and has an Intel MTH to handle the RDRAM-SDRAM conversion for the Timna memory controller.

MTH part number:
FW82805AA
QA32ES

ICH2 Southbridge part number:
FW82801BA
Q965ES

That's cool! Totally unreleased platform, even!

Are the drivers readily available for download, or did you make sure to archive them somewhere if anyone else ever stumble upon something?

Some more 3DMark results below.

As expected the performance is right in-line with Intel i810/i815 integrated graphics.

I had read that Timna drivers existed, but never looked for them until I got this board. Windmiller mentioned their existence in an old post here on the forum many years ago, but never posted an update about actually finding the drivers. I found some mention of the Timna graphics driver on a few driver download websites, but they all seemed to be fake / scam sites using old driver website data with links to junk. However I did get a potential filename of the driver (win2kb51.zip). From there I ended up at this site: http://ftp.tekwind.co.jp/pub/asustw/beta/mb/driver/ . The site also had a win98b51.zip and winnt4b51.zip. The readme files in those zips included this (win98 example):

*
* Intel(R) 81x Chipset Family Graphics Driver and
* Graphics Controller for Intel (R) Celeron (TM) Processor
* for Microsoft* Windows* 95 and Microsoft* Windows* 98
* Installation Information
*
* Date: March 3, 2000
*
* NOTE: This document refers to systems containing the
* following Intel chipset:
*
* Intel(R) 810 Chipset
* Intel(R) 810E Chipset
* Intel(R) 815 Chipset
* Intel(R) 815E Chipset
* Graphics Controller for Intel (R) Celeron (TM) Processor
*

And sure enough, the win98b51 driver worked perfectly in Windows 98. For now all three files are still available on that site. I have local copies I’d like to archive, but I’m not sure the best place to do so.

Edit: the Windows 2000 driver (win2kb51) will work under Windows XP if you install it manually via device manager and use the "choose driver myself" + "have disk" options and select the driver INF file.

Tremendous work! Smile

I have an unmarked Timna which provoked my curiosity, but I did not obtain a motherboard.

Katmai500,
Job well done, awesome!

Chipset "secret" Cool
Where do such motherboards live?
I would buy.

My source for this board had more than one. So you may see a few more appear on the forum sometime soon. Wink

Some additional benchmarks:

Quake III Arena Demo 1 @ normal settings: 32.6 fps

SisSoft Sanda 99

    CPU Dhrystone: 1810 MIPS
    FPU Whetstone 896 MFLOPS
    Memory Integer STREAM benchmark: 205 MB/s
    Memory FPU STREAM benchmark: 208 MB/s

The memory benchmarks are way slower than a Pentium III on a 440BX. Not a very good showing for the MTH here. I have an intel CC820 board with the i820 chipset and MTH. I'm curious how that would compare with a 667 MHz Celeron installed via a Socket 370 to Slot 1 adapter. That should isolate away the MTH and just leave a performance comparison of i820 vs the Timna memory controller.

Hello,Katmai500. Youhave founded a real treasure. Please accept my congratulations. Old articles described problems with the i820 MTH.
Does this sample have the same problems?
Have you checked this for stability?

It's been fairly stable in my testing thus far. Some applications such as Everest or CPU-Z will give a blue screen error if you try to pull the CPUID information, but otherwise I haven't had any repeatable issues.

I also have an Intel CC820 motherboard with the MTH and it also seemed stable when I tested it.

I haven't run any specific stability tests such as a multi-hour Prime95 run.

If anyone needs a Timna board, I do have a stash of them for your testing pleasure Smile

That was unexpected ... Isn't it a pretty standard CuMine-128 core with a north bridge integrated?

[Edit] Just read that the CPUID was reused on Pentium-M, which makes it make sense ... Laughing
