These are basically 386 CPUs with some 486 instructions and 8Kb cache added. Very much like boosted Cyrix 486DLC.
TI486SXL2-G66-GA
486 PGA168 pin-out
Year 1995 week 5
Compatible with early 486 mainboards that support 386 style system bus. Probably OPTi or UMC based.
New old stock
$25 each
Some are at the AVICC, those go straight to your box. Some are in Europe, sending at cost, $10 to $15 worldwide.

| Careful with these, they are not 5V parts. Yes the I/O is 5V-tolerant but they still need 3.6V supply for the core. Don't just plug them into any motherboard. |

There are many 486 interposers with voltage conversion to choose from. Anyway, I don't think they will burn out on 5V. Active cooling should help. _________________ My Active Sales |

ph4nt0m, did you buy so many for the purpose of binning? If so, how fast did you get one running and at what voltage?
Most will do 80 MHz at 4.x volts. I have one that can do 90 MHz, but it needs 5 V. _________________ The only thing I hate more than straightening CPU pins is having CPU's with bent pins in my collection. |

Yep, that's the plan. Although I have postponed this task because there are more pressing matters requiring my attention. Anyway, I have got way more of these than pictured, so it will be a fun ride. My only concern is that a PGA socket isn't going to survive through so many insertions and removals, so I probably have to upgrade it to a ZIF socket first. _________________ My Active Sales |

Our of curiosity, how many are you binning? It took me 13 CPUs to get just one that could do 90 MHz reliably.
Let me know if you find a cheap source for NOS socket 3 ZIFs. _________________ The only thing I hate more than straightening CPU pins is having CPU's with bent pins in my collection. |

Please keep me apprised of the results. If you can reach 90 MHz at less than 4.95 V, or even 100 MHz without refrigeration, there is great promise for this chip. _________________ The only thing I hate more than straightening CPU pins is having CPU's with bent pins in my collection. |

It would be interesting to design a 486-to-386 adaptor with voltage conversion for this CPU, but the PGA parts required are hard to come by these days. _________________ My Active Sales |

Some members in Vogons are working on an interposer so these can be run on a regular 486 board. Supposedly, these have a different pin-out to other 486 CPUs. This is the first time I've read that they will run on early 486 boards, and with them being 3.6V parts, I'm surprised. _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.
