...in terms of profitable...
Do you mean, the one they cheated people with or the honest one they sucked more money out of people with?

Well, as for the cheated one, I'd have to go with the 486's and the Slot one's.

486's , because curiously enough, they all sucked no matter how fast they were ,and plus going from 25mhz to 33mhz to 50...and so on...It's like taking the same chip and stepping it a little more and reselling it to the public for a fortune!(Hail the AMD DX4-100 EW...at low cost with kick ass performance!)

And the Slot ones: because no matter what they try to call it, 233.300,333...Celeron,Pentium....It was all the same damned chip with a simple switch of an added resistor or mhz on the diode to make it possible to clock it higher ....or whatever... Very Happy

But with those 2 choices ,I find they suckered the world and made more profit by using the same , leftovers and recreating new ones to make them "sound like a good deal" hence boosting sales!

JD Cool

I'd say their most profitable chips were those around before AMD became a serious threat. So, Pentium II on down probably. Before the big price wars kicked in and their chips sold for more on average.

386 and 486 prolly. The competition did copy those nicely though. AMD's 486s were mighty popular.

yeah.. I remember buying an AMD 120Mhz 486 when they came out. .. then excitedly setting the seven segment led speed jumpers on the case to show the new cpu speed.
