I was wondering if anyone could help me out.

Recently i upgraded to a new mobo & processor -

Gigabyte GA-8VT880P Combo with Intel Celeron D 3.06Ghz (LGA775)

From the day i first used the new parts, the fan speed alternates, more than i think it should.
(i d/ld a speed monitor and it jumps from about 800rpm to 1500+rpm constantly!)
Initially i asked around and was told it shouldnt be much of a probem, provided i dont excessively use the pc, which i do.

Lately the fan has been getting worse, and the heatsink along with the side panels of the case have been getting very warm.

I never had this problem with my old mobo/processor, can anyone please help?

Prescott CPUs are hot in general. Did you have this CPU and that cooler on other motherboard ? Or you changed all parts ?

Thanx 4 responding.
@Marcin
Nah, both mobo & cpu were brand new

@JD
I know CELERONs are shite, but i had bugger all cash at the time.

Is the revving CPU fan a problem i should do something about?

Answer#1-->Sok, At least it was a Celeron "D"

Answer#2--->Question, does your computer have a fan speed controller or program? Or is it just a plain noise that you hear(the over reving) ?

Sometimes the controller or software set to AFS(auto fan speed) could be screwy ! In other words, it detects the CPU temp to hot almost all the time, so it gives the software/controller the same impression ,hence the command to excelerate the RPM (fan) for cooling down.
Also, if the TEMP reader on the cpu is faulty and reading it to hot, can also cause the same affect(command) to be given out(RPM excel).

So with that said, if it's not that, then its simply the fan or power going to the fan that is disrupted.(bad fan).

Just my opinion...

Thanx for you help

I dont use fan speed software, but i downloaded one(SpeedFan) just to check if i wasn't just hearing things, at first startup the program alerted me that the fan was operating at irregular speeds and it attempted to fix it, which it did, it regulated speeds for a while, but it didnt last, after a while the fan went back to revving again. Since day 1 i have suspected a dodgy fan, but i dunno, i might give the people i bought it off a ring and get it replaced.

I figured it out. It was a simple setting in the BIOS called CPU Smart Fan, it was on, you probably know that it controls the fan speed depending on the temperature and CPU usage, so obviously thats y it revved.
