Found a rare S-spec Pentium II 300 SL2MZ new in box, manufactured week 44 of 1997 and packed 11/15/1997. This would have been around $738 USD in late-1997 based on old articles I could find regarding pricing. That's equivalent to $1466 in April 2025 dollars. It's fascinating to imagine that someone paid that much for this CPU almost 30 years ago, and here it is still sitting new in the box. It was the fastest x86 CPU available at the time.
Pentium II 300 price history (1000 unit qty)
May 1997: $1981
July 1997: $850
October 1997: $738
January 1998: $530
April 1998: $375
June 1998: $305
July 1998: $209
October 1998: $192 |

Love the text on these early P2 boxes:
The power of Pentium Pro Processor
Plus MMX Technology Capabilities
Back when referencing the PPro was something everybody knew was cool. |

It's much cooler than the text that replaced it on the 333 MHz and up PII boxes: "Power for Demanding Business and Home Applications". I guess by 1998, the luke-warm reception of MMX had set in, and the Pentium Pro was no longer as relevant, so they went with something more generic. |

[quote="CPUShack"]Not an uncommon Atom but interesting to see it modded to run on LGA775

Is that a known interposer? Have you tested this CPU on a board? |
