Hi all... I'm kinda dumb when it comes to some of this technical stuff about processors but does anybody know if i can use an 800 mhz celeron mobile processor to replace a Pentium mobile processor?? Here's my situation, I have a dell inspiron 2500 with 800 mhz celeron, 256 memory, 100mhz FSB, Modem/NIC, 10 gig HDD, CDRW ......... But heres the deal, the motherboard is deader than Abe Lincoln... no beeps, nuthin... already been told by dell that it was fried.... So i went on ebay to find one and the cheapest i could find was 250.00 on up... but i also seen on ebay that the inspiron 8000 motherboard was almost identical except that it had a pentium in it instead and it was only going for 50-75 on ebay so i went ahead and ordered one.... Now i'm kinda hopin that i can use my 2500 case, the 8000 motherboard, and the 2500 processor and make a decent laptop out of them. Any ideas or suggestions????? Sad

Not very likely (or easily)
They use different voltages and possibly sockets.

What type of 'pentium' are we talking?

According to this thread on Dell support forumd you can replace 2500 motherboard with 8000 motherboard:

http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=insp_upgrade&message.id=13569&highlight=inspiron+2500+cpu#M13569

It looks like both 2500 and 8000 motherboards have microPGA2 sockets, and both work with Celerons and Pentiums, so you have pretty good chance that 800 motherboard will work with your Celeron. I'd recommend to search more on Dell support forums.
