Is there something called jumper free in the bios? I think that was the term Asus used for overclocking controls back then.
In any case, you should be able to use ez-flash within the bios to upgrade/downgrade your bios to a version with multi adjustment, if it's completely absent. _________________ My WTB List

Extremely weird 🤔 yeah, it might be best to try the oldest and newest bios available, and see if that brings up more options. _________________ My WTB List

That's so strange. I'm stumped, I actually have the same board lying around but no cooler or ram. Maybe someone else knows? _________________ My WTB List

my guess is that it isnt detecting it as an extreme edition cpu, its only showing up as "Intel Pentium D CPU 4.00GHz" and so its hiding settings it believes is incompatible or something _________________ My Part Collection |

Oh something to note, i ran hwinfo32 and i noticed this:
CPU HFM (Base):
4000.0 MHz = 15 x 266.7 MHz @ 1.3125 V [Locked] _________________ My Part Collection |

By the way , a question for people who knows.
"Pentium 980" is name written inside the chip or does CPU-Z assume it? |

It's forged internally from frequency, so nothing read from the CPU.

Your BIOS detects it as unlocked, which is why it shows 8.26 GHz at a 31x multiplier. CPU-Z validation also reports the same value, though the maximum stock frequency is set at 3.8 GHz. This could be a motherboard/BIOS issue. Anyway, even in that case, there is no reason for it to boot at 4.0 GHz after a CMOS clear, so that part looks genuine.
Testing it on another motherboard would be the best way to confirm whether the PNS is set by your Asus board or not.
There is strong interest in this sample because it is considered one of the Holy Grails of the NetBurst era. Officially, this CPU is listed as HH80553PH1204M with QSpec QOEV. It was intended to be Intel’s final attempt to combine two Cedar Mill cores (each with 2 MB L2 cache) on a single package running at 4.0 GHz. No confirmed sample have surfaced in the past 20 years, so it has long been assumed never to have existed. If you found one, it would be the only known unit. However, a more likely explanation is that this is a previously known sample on a platform (motherboard, BIOS, etc.) that makes it appear to be the Grail. Investigating on this is really exciting. _________________ ES-Only Collector : http://www.engineering-sample.com

So wait, a monolithic Pentium D? How odd. |

| This CPU was on a different board when we originally got it, but that board had blown capacitors and was unusable, so we moved it over to this board that we had laying around and it booted right up, displaying what it currently says. |
