Hello guys,
I need some input from you guys.
I recently won a rare CPU on eBay. It's about USD$400.00. It's been 3 weeks and I have not yet received the item. I asked the seller and he said he has already mailed it. Unfortunately, it was mailed without delivery confirmation or signature required (just regular mail), so neither he nor I can track it. Even worse, it is not insurred (it was not offered in the eBay system).
What are my options? The seller is one of the fellow members on the forum, so I think he did mail it. But....
Anyway, what would you guys do? _________________ My Intel CPU Museum: http://www.mynikko.com/CPU/

| It can depend on the shipping delays if you took economy or priority mail. Once I sent chips to cpushack and they took 8 weeks to arrive lol. |

| Ebay have procedures for dealing with this. Why are you asking here? There is also a time limit for filing a claim for non-receipt in paypal. |

Please tell me your not talking about the socket 4 pentium ES you won from tlcomp. If that chip was lost it would break my heart. I can vouch for tlcomp as uterly reliable as I have traded with him myself even outside the quasi protection of ebay. Their is no reason that chip should be taking even close to 3 weeks since tlc lives in Wisconson. You are not without options though! The post office can start an inquiry into the package. I don't remember the phone number off hand but the local post office can supply it. Since the package is domestic the inquiry might even work. I would definatly start this imediately since this chip cannot be allowed to slip into the great beyond.
good luck,
Les |

that's another sample for why I always insist in insured or trackable mail!
400 bucks and save how much? two or three Dollars for tracking?
It's a shame.
remember it is not only a question of trust to the sender!
It is a matter of trust in the postal service in seriosity and quality!
Noone will risk trouble by stealing a tracked letter.
Those letters are transported separately and the risk of loss - "upps, it felt down, I pick it up later - and forgotten" - is much less.
I feel really sorry for you nikko! though my teaching lesson what doesn't help you here but maybe others in the future. |

But alas it is also a matter of fact that registered
mails, especially if there is something more inside than
only a simple letter, are getting more often 'lost' than
standard-parcels. Nevertheless registering is
very nice to check up the status and to get
sure nobody is cheating. If there are chips
for more than $100 you should think about to take a
fully insured mail-service even it costs 10% of the item.
Interestingly at the moment I also have problems with
air-mail parcels into the USA with very long running-times.
Maybe before the parcels get into the plane they are
all checked up exactly with Xrays because the danger
of terror-acts and this causes the delays? _________________ Ordem e Progresso |

so far i ordered 200 to 300 items worldwide, and never got any issue, except a seller in france (where i live) that sent a tracked parcel to a wrong person
economy mail from the US to France is really slow though, especially for large, bulky packets - sometimes more than 2 months |

Sorry but I do not agree with that. Registered was and will be always more safely method than normal mail. All parcells can be same checked by customs. But customs are not problem because I never heard about steal by customs.
400 USD for chip and not registered mail is not understandable for me. I wouldn't give that option in my auction with that so much high price. _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

I think this is a very good example of why high value, both monetary and historical, items should be sent with both insurance and tracking and it vindicates my stance on such matters that was referred to in another forum on this site. OK it is more expensive but it is also much more reliable and can save both parties a lot of hassles. A lot of these very rare items are irreplacable and as such it is very prudent to use at least a tracking service of some description if it is economically viable.

For really expensive chips, I agree. For not so expensive I don't agree. If I apply that to all chips it will cost more in insurrance than in usual cpu loss.
I've lost 2 cpus in mails on more than 1000 cpus bought. If you add 2-3€ for register and insurrance on all these 1000 cpus, you will obtain far more than the value of the 2 lost cpus...
But for a 400$ chip, it can kill these statistics so I would have taken a insurrance. _________________ Register on x86-guide.net to manage and share your collection on-line !

Has anyone got a picture of this missing pentium? I think it has just turned up, I cant find the ebay file I saved. I was hoping maybe we had set up a missing chip register.
