Question I have an HP Pavilion a714x. It had an AMD Athlon XP 3100+ (Thorton?). I would like to put in a cheap chip to see if the board is still good. Would an AMD Athlon 2500+ (Barton) work? Thanks Question

Thorton is the same core as Barton, the difference is only in L2 cache size. If your motherboard supports Thorton 3100+, then it should support Barton 2500+ too.
