Hi guys,

I'm looking to upgrade my Athlon XP2000+processor.

my motherboard is a Soltec nforce2 SL-75FRN-L.

So I know I need an AMD Socket-462 processor but...

...what's the very best one I can get and about how much and where from?

Thanks very much for your time,

Rory

The fastest processor for your motherboard is Athlon XP 3000+ with 333 MHz FSB - http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K7/AMD-Athlon%20XP%203000%2B%20-%20AXDA3000DKV4D.html

Here is a link to a list of all processors supported by your motherboard:

Thankyou for that. Very helpful.

Seems to be rather difficult to get hold of a new one of these in the UK.... Have put in a bid on ebay for a used one for £33 though.

Is it worth it, or should I just keep my overclocked Athlon2000+?

Thanks again,

Rory

It's worth it if you really need that 40% - 45% performance boost to run some applications or games, and you're willing to pay for it. If you want to upgrade just to have faster system then may be it's not worth it.

I'm mainly upgrading to get things to run a little faster but also enjoying learning about the inside of my PC. So, welll worth spending a few quid I recon. Anyway, thanks again for your help. I appreciate it.

Best wishes,

Rory
