| Hello, I have a motherboard and i know just about nothing about it. Where the processor is supposed to be it says " Socket 462" Now i read that it means its a socket A and supports only AMD processors up to the Athlon XP 2600+ with 266 MHz FSB. Now does that mean any and all motherboards that support socket 462 also supports the Athlon XP 2600+ with 266 MHz FSB? Thanks for your help. |

No, it doesn't mean that the motherboard supports it. If you bought brand-name computer like Dell, HP, etc, then search for your computer model. Otherwise try to find your motherboard model, and then maybe you'll be able to find on the net what processors your motherboard supports. Where to look for motherboard model number:
- When you turn on your computer the motherboard make and model are often displayed for short time period in the upper left corner of the screen.
- Look at the motherboard itself. Sometimes it's printed on it. Look only at text printed with big and/or bold letters.

It would be helpful if you could figure who made your motherboard. From there you hould be able to get the info you need. Goo place to find out info on your MB via bios at bootup. http://www.wimsbios.com/numbers.shtml |
