Hi everyone,
I just bought a motherboard together with a AMD Barton 3200+ CPU off internet.. sadly the seller did not specify that the CPU is damaged.. 
Anyways i have just tested the CPU and its working ok. the scrached places is an edge and on the core. i will post some pictures laters
I want to know if this will have some effects on the overall performance?

And my second similar answer today  : test by prime95 - great program to test stability. You can have good work on Word, Excel and other programs but it can be crash on game or example video compression in not funny moment

The answer's still "no."  Neither scratches nor the trauma that caused them will have any lasting effect on the chip's performance. If a chip is unstable, it's got nothing to do with cosmetic defects.

Sorry but I didn't got it You mean crushed core have nothing to unstable CPU when it already works in example desktop in Windows OS ? It depends where core is crushed.

He didn't say anything about it being crushed, just (as I interpret it) that the package was badly scratched. Crushing, cracking, etc. aren't cosmetic defects, they're significant damage. But even in those cases, unless the bond wires break or short together, or the die is cracked or scratched through the passivation, the chip should still work reliably.
Keep in mind that I design ICs for a living... For over 20 years now. I've seen all there is to see when it comes to mangled ICs.

Sorry for my english that is why I asked you. I didn't thought you don't know some facts but I didn't understood your meaning in 100%
Cosmetics are cosmetics nothing important. I scratched laminate on my old Barton 2500 by bad cooler some years ago but worked also full stable.

Sorry for the bad description...
The CPU has 2 cracks on it and its running fine... how weird is that??

Prime95 stable result - keep it. Unstable result - sale. That is my suggest.

I found the program u mentioned on mersenne.org
I have 1GB memory RAM installed. what setting would you suggest? I am very unfamiliar with this program.

Options/Torture test.../FFT (maximum heat and power consumption) Wait about 15-30 minutes. You will see result on screen. I hope it will be : 0 errors
