Hi, having damaged my P4 2.53ghz 512/533 478 pin I would like to upgrade. I am though having difficulty finding what upgrades my motherboard will be compatable with na dother forums are just getting me more confused.

My motherboard is http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=45

I have SiS 645DX chipset if it helps also.

I would like to know which of the following i should go for...

Firstly, a processor very similar to the one i had http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Intel-P4-2-53-512-533-Northwood-Skt-478-CPU_W0QQitemZ150036563945QQihZ005QQcategoryZ14293QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Secondly, slightly better specs

Thirdly, better specs, but I'm unsure whether my motherbaord will support it
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Intel-P4-3-4-GHz-Socket-478-CPU-Northwood-Brand-New_W0QQitemZ140030404442QQihZ004QQcategoryZ80143QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

If anyone can suggest a better model which will definitely work I'd be delighted.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Matt

According to MSI Website, your P4 2.53ghz 512/533 478 pin is not even supported ...
(-> http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_cpu_support_detail.php?UID=45&kind=1)

For MSI, you can go up to the 2.8GHz/400/512 but if your 2.53GHz/533/512 works, maybe the max will be 3.06GHz/533/512.

And if you don't know what to do with your dead cpu, you can send it to me Wink

Lol, that it exactly what i thought to. yet it's been running fine now for nearly four years. Some of the pins are bent very badly, and one of them has broken off.

I am hoping that I can get 3.06ghz, but I don't want to buy until someone with adequate knowledge can confirm so.

I have a P4/2.53 in a Matrix machine, and I'd just grab anoter one- They overclock nicely! Mine is at 3GHz on a slightly modified air cooler (bigger fan) and it does well enough to keep me happy on my $0/week PC budget!
