Bios flashing in a Flashrom is not the problem. You need to find a suitable hex file... _________________ Frank. |

Yes, I know you need a suitable BIOS - that's why I mentioned that Herbert has a selection, as well as AMD having a suitable BIOS online (although I would trust Herbert's knowledge more than AMD...) _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

They both don't have suitable BIOS-files I think. Thats the first Nx Mobo with FPU-socket. You'l need a BIOS with FPU support and so on _________________ Frank. |

Looking at the info on http://www.memotech.franken.de/NexGen/Bios.html I would suggest that if a BIOS contains modules with names that are the same as certain FPU instructions, there is a fair chance that it has FPU support... _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

Congratulations - what a find!

But that's only for the Nx586-FPxx CPUs that have an integrated FPU. Nobody here knows how a separate Nx587 FPU behaves. You would probably also have to program the NxVL chip differently to enable the coprocessor, because the NxVL chip controls the buses and has to know the participants.
Still It is worth a try to get a SST29EE010 flash EPROM (I have a few), program it with the different VL BIOSes and see whether it boots or not. If it does not boot, a port-80 diagnosis card (POST-card) could give a hint to where the problem is. If it boots, one would still have to check if the FPU is available and works ok.
BTW, I bought a lot of used SST29EE010's not only for playing with different NexGen BIOSes or for supplying it to other NexGen motherboard owners in need, but also because I had a slight hope to find unknown NexGen BIOS versions in them (unsuccessful so far). |
