I bought Intel R80286-10 processor with stamped "CS" on the back:
I have Intel R80286 processors with "CS" and other two-letter codes on the back. Their two letter codes are always the same font and size as other markings on the chip. So, do you think it's a customer sample or not?

Just as Pentiums that say ES on them arent samples. |
I hope the following picture will better show the difference between "maybe CS" and other CS processors:
"CS" on the left processor does not mean "customer sample". "CS" on the right processor seems to be stamped separately from other markings. By the way, both processors are Intel R80286-10.

I think ES is the same as CS? But CS is not used any longer!? I've only ES 286 seen. I traded mine with Karolo _________________ Frank. |

CS = Customer Sample = Items given for free to a customer who plan to buy thousands. Strictly indentical than the commercial one from a technical point of view.
QS = Qualification Sample = The same as CS, but used later.
ES = Engineering Sample = These CPUs are the only engineering sample, i.e intended for debugging purpose only. They are in an early stage of development and not exactly the same than the commercial one from a tech point of view (like a Beta software, they are Beta Hardware).
Currently, Intel processes for a new processor use three generation of engineering sample (A0, A1, A2) and one generation of Qualification Sample before launching.
I have informations to recognize QS from ES, and the different level of ES. I'll publish them soon _________________ ES-Only Collector : http://www.engineering-sample.com

hi genna,
i own 16 LCC Intel R80186-10.
5 have thin CS like your left one,
3 have thick CS like your right one,
4 have CT (3 thin, 1 thick),
4 are different
so i also think so, it's not a customer sample (if yes, i would be happy
best regards, borris _________________ best regards borris

Can you post a picture of a processor with thick "CT" letters, or send me a picture of it and I'll post it? On another note - do you want to destroy your "CT" processor, and then we can both claim we have "customer samples"?

hmm, i can't find the thick "CT" any more but i found 2 others with "BY" and "CC". BY is older than CC is older than CS.
i think, i'll throw "BY" and "CC" away
btw: if someone wants to buy ulta-rare R80286-12 Customer Samples ("CS"-marked), please contact me
