Hi,

I have this strange CPU : a BGA mounted over a Socket 423... But on the bottom view, you can see that all the balls in the middle are not connected to the socket... So I guess it is not functionnal (unfortunatly I have no Skt 423 mobo for testing...)

So what can be the purpose of this ?

Thanks for your help,
g0b

possible mech sample for another unlicensed (unsuccessful ?) socket conversion.

Anyone have any idea what that chip is on the top?

The chip on top size is 31mmx31mm. Die is 10mmx12mm.

Does not match any other intel chip I have...

the package looks like an Intel Mobile Pentium III

Package type: Micro-PGA2

But I do not recognise the numbers on the bottom. I only collect ES/QS mobiles and none of mine have many (or any) numbers on the bottom.

You can see my chips and compare with your.

Your BGA chip doesn't look like a PIII mobile yet.
