There are no socket 462 processors that support SSE2. You'll need to upgrade you motherboard and processor to AMD Athlon 64/Sempron 64 or Intel Pentium 4/Core 2.

I don't know UK prices, so I will assume they are the same as in US. For £100 or a bit higher I would go for socket AM2 single-core Athlon 64 3500+ or 3800+. If you want to spend close to £200 then, in my opinion, Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 would be the best. E6600 would be even better, but the E6600 CPU + board + memory will cost you more than $400.

thanks, I will look into it. Anything else i need to watch out for? I realise i will need ddr2 ram, but i'm assuming all my drives, monitor, case + power supply will all work. It sounds too straight forward!! famous last words
