Hello,
Can somebody suggest me what to do.
I have a Piii CPU 450/512/100 2.0V S1.
Motherboard M6VBE
Graphic Card: Rage Pro Turbo AGP
I have problems with my DVD movies. The movie playes "shocking".
Movie and sound are not at the same time.
My processor is 100% in use when I play a DVD.
If I use a faster CPU, will this solve the problem.
Best Regard. |

I suggest you to change VGA card to example ATI Rage 128 or ATI Radeon 7000/VE/7500 from cheap VGA cards and then try again. If doesn't solve a problem change also CPU.
I suspect you use > 128 MB of RAM ? _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

Ohhh I checked and your motherboard - Biostar M6VBE base on VIA chipset. VIA was poor in video playback. With Intel 440BX you shouldn't have problems with same configuration. But try swap some parts as I mentioned. _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

You should try to use another DVD playback software.
What operating system do you use ?
I don't think your CPU is too slow.
My old computer plays DVDs without problems !
Pentium I MMX 233 MHz
ABIT PT5 R2 Motherboard
64 MB EDO - RAM
16MB PCI VGA card (Voodoo 3 3500) |

There is software out there tailored to work well on very aged machines (Or machines that perform aged... Transmeta!)
When I get home I can link you to a freeware DiVX/DVD player, it is very runable at "High" priority on a 500MHz Transmeta with 2MB Graphics Your P3/450 should run much better!
Also, consider shrinking/re-installing your OS.... XP is quite the bloated beast after a year or two. |

Hello,
Thanks for the reply.
Some answers to some questions.
The operating system is Wim Xp Pro without any SP.
I also have been shrinking my OS, but with not much result.
The was a good freeware DiVX/DVD player. Please send the link to.

Why do you use XP on this computer ?! This operating system should NOT be installed on PCs under 1 GHz.
I have a PC with Athlon 750 CPU (Slot A), 256 MB PC-100 RAM, 120 Gb HD and AGP Radeon 9200 PRO graphic card.
I tried to install XP on it - but this computer was too slow for XP !!!
You should use an older operating system ( for example Windows 98 ) on your computer. Most of software works on Win98, only recent games require a Win 2000 or Win XP, but your PC is too slow for these games anyway. |

I wouldn't go lower than Windows 2000. For example I have second PC in home with :
K6-2+ 570 / 384 MB RAM / 10 GB / GeForce 256 32MB/128 Bit and works fine !
Windows 2000 works a bit faster but much longer booting than XP.
Windows 98 on this VIA chipset board will propably not working stable even with Hyperion drivers. _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

I have TinyXP installed on my 'server' (Celeron 466 with 256MB) and it's quite happy
On ANY machine under 1GHz/256MB, I HIGHLY recommend cleaning out the fat in XP. Highly. |
