Did it show 2500+ or 3000+ with original 333 mhz fsb?

Maybe an overclock too hard may have fried the chip... depending on the multiplier a 2500goes 166.66*11=1883 mhz; a 3000+ 13*166.66=2166mhz, if oclocked 13*200=2600 mhz; a 3000+ 10.5*200=2100 mhz, underclocked at 166.66 mhz fsb (the 333 you talk about) only 10.5*166.66=1750.

If you fried your chip I can only see because of a 333 mhs fsb overclocked to 400 on the Xp 3000+.

Hope it's not your case, but if you removed and put the new cpu on as it arrived you surely put new thermal grease. It should have worked then.

If you have a cpu to try on it you could see if it's the motherboard fried or the cpu.

hi,

no i have not cleaned the cpu / heatsink interface,

I have also tried a different cpu, as I have a xp 2500 chip

It does exactly the same.

how can I tell if its the motherboard doing this , i.e. heat shutdown kicking in ?

I was under the impression that it takes alot longer than 1 sec for this to happen ?

cheers

ac

If the motherboard is broken, it sometimes shows us a noise, or it is turning on for a sec and secondly it pasts through, show the Screen works and then it 's turning off, So If you there is a problem find in your country a men whose upgrading or changing the bios, they usualy take your motherboard for few days and they usually tell you what's the problem, if you have money, buy a new motherboard, it cost's about 80$ for AMD or Sempron not 64bit Processor, please take the Gigabyte or Asus and i promiss it will take an hour to be back with working Comuter Properly, Sorry for my mistakes, I usually help people in my country, but when i so this problem i need to help you thx!!

All, many thanks for your patience and assistance.

I now have it back up and running ,

It was the cleaning of the cpu / heat sink and re-greasing that did it.
