The LH0081A should be a Z80 - PIO but it says Z80A - CPU on it. Why would someone fake this chip?

I don't think it's fake...

exemple...
I had a Fairchild cpu saying instead of 8088-2 only said 8088.

I think it's like those Intel that sais #### A / ####B/####C

Sharp Z80 CPU`s have the part # LH0080, LH0080A or B or E not LH0081.

Well that's why I said I don't think it's a fake ----->"why would anyone fake this'' , you said. So I don't believe someone did, there be no point really. Unless they'd put something like "sample" on it or simular, then I'd say their trying to scam... Dunno...But your point on the "No letters after the ####" on Z80's is strong I guess.Unless again , it's just a rare case that you hold in your hands that has that "letter marker". I'd keep it to see what develops in the future on the subject !

Cheers, and good findings I'd say !

Or SHARP messed up and forgot to change all the text in the computer that prints the chips. Either they forgot to change the 1 to 0 or they forgot to change Z80A-CPU to Z80A-PIO. I wonder if you could test resistance on various pins via a meter and compare the results with a known SHARP Z80?

I think your suggestion is what happened. I tested resistance across the same pins on an LH0080A and the LH0081A and some had readings and some had different or no readings.

Unless it's the lighting, the top surface looks to me like it's been sanded down and remarked.

John - Do you have a genuine LH0081A to compare it against with an ohmmeter?

No I don`t have an LH0081A. I held the chip at an angle from the end and it is darker on the two ends than in the middle portion where the printing is.
My guess it is a fake. If I can get an LH0081A to test it against I will do it.
