FWIW, I've sold several MC6845's and UM6845's on Ebay to vintage computer collectors... They don't care if it's ES or not.

I do care !!! This is why I need to know, because if it is, I'm keeping it, if it's not, it's going in the garbage !
This ain't a pissing contest on what price to put on a chip, just knowledge is what I'm asking !
Simple question really !

JD, you need to seriously cut down on the caffeine.
What I'm saying is, instead of throwing it away (kinda dumb if you ask me) you could make 10 or 15 bucks on it instead. But whatever floats your boat...
To answer your question, it's unlikely the "ES" in this case means engineering sample.

........One sais :
"it's unlikely the "ES" in this case means engineering sample."
While the other sais:
"Ya, without a doubt that is a super rare ES chip. Worth $$$$ "
Could you please explain to me again why people should come in here to get advise ?
Chip68, I understand what your saying, but I seriously doubt that I'd get more then five bucks for this chip even if it was a ES. In here, nothing sells for over a dollar
Jac, unless your serious, then thank you for the info,it's apreaciated. But if your joking, it ain't funny !

No matter where it appears in the part number:
ES always = Engineering Sample
CS always = Customer Sample
Take this cpu on the top of my want list:
URA3733tMRON-ESCS
is a super rare Intel engineering customer sample that I am trying to find.
Those were magic codes used on all production lines. Everyone knows that.
The chips were given special handling. |

AWSOME !!!
Reason I wasn't sure, is because I was told earlier in the year when I had something with ES at the end, that it wasn't a ES......come to find out, it probly was !
So anything containing ES at end of part number is indeed something to hold on to !
See, someone should make a page in this forum just on the importants of codes and what to look for in codes (ES). For newbies like me ! God knows how many possible ES's I've thrown out over the years not knowing cause no one would specify or answer !
Big Thanx bud !
Sooo.....chip86....were you simply trying to let me sell it for nothing so you could get an ES cheap ?
