Confused Hi, just another non technical person looking for processor upgrade help.

I would like to upgrade my pc, if possible.

It is an Aria pc.

The motherboard is an ASRock K7S8X and it says on the box

FSB 333 MHz

DDR 400/333

For socket A (462) AMD Athlon XP

SiS 746 FX

Chipset

AGP 8X

FSB 333 Mhz

DDR 400/333

3 DDR slots

PCI

ATA 133

Current ram is 512 Kb

Can you please advise on upgrades for the ram and costs? Can I add ram, or do I have to remove the current ram and replace it?

Ditto - processor upgrades + costs (currently AMD Athlon XP - 1.25 GHz).

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Don't get me wrong, but browsing using the links provided in the sticky thread I could easily find your query:

http://www.cpu-world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5573

chosing Asrock Amd processors, getting to the list and clicking on your mobo model gives the entire list of supported processors, if you had 20 seconds more of patience you could have done it yourself.

We help if we can, but we are not an underpaid helpdesk service.

For prices I have no precise idea, depends on where you live, Athlon Xp 3000+ is the max you can put in. Upgrade to 1 Gb ram, depends on the number of slots you are currently using.

Hi dume,

I am afraid that, like many other people, trying to follow any "sticky threads" is like trying to read Swahili.

I am very grateful for your help, but, would say that most of the people that I know have a total zero understanding of computer terminology. Embarassed

What is a sticky thread anyway?

Once again, many thanks for your help. Please accept my apologies for aggravating you in any way.

No aggravation, many zero knowledge get past that.

The problem is that many persons just leave a message here thinking that we are going to the job for them, we do because many do not have a pc but "a dell" or other brand names.

Sometimes it's challenging to explain from scratch to people, but many like you have all the info needed to make a search in google and don't make the extra step to look. You don't have an obscure Camaro something, you have a mainstream board.

I'm not fed up with you, but over time it's tiring. That's why helpdesk started to charge for calls, 50% are just calls they recieve because it's a toll free line.

Btw, the sticky thread is in plain english, sorry but there you have all you need.

The sticky thread is the first thread of the section. You can't miss it, it is is always the first ("stuck" at the first place).
If you are not able to read sticky thread, don't even think to change a cpu yourself. Buy a new computer...
