|
|
Hope someone can help ... little bit confused and i am no expert..
I have an Asus A7A133 Rev 1.0 Motherboard ..
Bios version 1012
I decided to upgrade CPU from Athlon XP 1700+ to an Athlon XP2600+
The CPU support page say this motherboard can support the chip with 1012 Bios..
Chip part number :- AXDA2600DKV3D
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K7/AMD-Athlon%20XP%202600%2B%20-%20AXDA2600DKV3D.html
After installation..booted up and checked cpu with PC Wizard 2007 ...
and CPU is only recognised as a Athlon XP 2000+ .....
So i set MB to jumper mode ..(JEN) {1-2}
CPU freq to 133mhz DSW Switches 1,2,3 to Off and 4 to on
And Multipliers to max 6 & 7 to Off and 8 & 9 to On ...
Booted again still only recognised as an Xp2000+ ....
Can anybody help me ...im now stuck..have i got the switches set correctly ....
Or is my chip a fake ?
Please Help .
Regards

Try this and then post results,
http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpu-z-138.zip
Maybe it's just a display error, don't go blow Asus... for now!
Edit: I realized now that you have a 166 (333) mhz fsb Xp 2600+
I'll explain why you have Xp 2000+ instead, cpu frequency is given by (FSB X Cpu multiplier)= NNNN Mhz
The Athlon Xp has a locked internal multiplier, so being your motherboard a FSB 133 (266) mhz you get less power.
In your case you have an Athlon Xp 2600+ @ 166.66 mhz fsb, cpu multiplier is 12.5, you should expect to see 2083.25 Mhz.
You get unfortunately only 12.5 x 133.33 = 1666.625 Mhz , Athlon XP 2000+.
Unless you unlock your cpu multiplier you can't get past that, sorry. It implies manul modification of the cpu.
Your motherboard FSB can't go to 166.66, just 133.33.
Your chip ain't no fake, don't crash it under you hammer please! |

Thanks for the quick reply ..
Great...
The reason i bought this chip was the asus website..the cpu support page said it could support a 2600+
Ok...Couple of questions..
1, Is this easy to do ..and could i have the instructions to do this...
2, What is the fastest cpu this MB can handle without any mods to chip. |

The board does support 2600+ CPU, but only AXDA2600DKV3C which has 266 MHz FSB.

I don't encourage that modification, search in google for "athlon xp multiplier unlock" or "athlon xp unlock".
Find the one that suits you most, after many readings you'll find the best one, I've never done that so I can't really say where you can find the best informations.
I'm not sure it'll solve your problem 100%. Unless you are very skilled and have the adequate instruments don't do that. Resell and buy the right 2600+ you need, as Genna replied.
Now it's up to you, don't rush, think about it. |
