Hi,

I'm creating a few articles about processors on the Dutch Wikipedia (see http://nl.wikpedia.org/wiki/Processor) and I'm in search for some images of them. Is it allowed to use the images on this site?

Greetings,

Daniël Mantione

Yes, you can use images from the site www.cpu-world.com, or images posted by me in this forum. Please include appropriate attribution to the source of images. If you want just add a link to the images/pages then no attribution is necessary. Linking to pages is much more preferrable than linking to images.

Thanks!

My article about the 80286 now looks like this http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/80286_(processor)

I've added a credit below the photo, and if you click on the photo you get a more verbose message. Translated into English, the text reads "Image with thanks to CPU-World. (C) Gennadiy Shvets. Used with permission." If you prefer another message, just let me know!

Maybe you should use a more typical type of the 80286 as an example picture rather than the more 'exotic' IBM version Wink

Can be done. Which ones are common? I remember seeing a lot of 286's with Siemens cpus, I guess the Intel one is common too, but the rest?

Intel and AMD CPUs are common. Siemens and Harris processors are less common. Fujitsu and IBM procesors are rare. Also, some packages (like AMD in ceramic PGA package) can be more rare than processors in other packages produced by the same manufacturer.

I think that selection of IBM processor is not bad, for us (collectors) Intel PGA/CLCC/PLCC processors look too boring Smile

Please understand Wikipedia licensing policy. Everything in wikipedia is under Gnu Free Documentation license (GFDL), meaning not only is it on wikipedia, but anybody can copy that content anywhere, provided that content too is licensed under GFDL. Is the author of these images aware of that? It's a bit like the GPL (open source or Linux software guys will know what I mean). See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Image_use_policy

It's a very sharing thing (see also creative commons) but the author of all work on wikipedia needs to understand that it can be legally copied by other people, as long as those people obey the GFDL.

Yes, I know about this. That's fine with me as long as a person who copies the image follow GFDL, specifically section 4(d).

Excellent - seems everybody knows about open content these days. Unfortunately here in Malaysia where I am currently living, it's not a well known idea. There's too much piracy - why bother learning about clever licensing granting legal rights to copy under certain circumstances, when most people have hundreds of pirate CD's and DVDs at home that cost US$1 each...
