This IBM is cool, Sun sparc style!
IBM had strange designs, but good for the eyes!! |

Do you remember what kind of system ran this chip ? Or how many of this chip were inside ?
POWER2 was mainly used in eight-chip and single chip (POWER2 SC) systems. _________________ My microprocessor collection: The Gecko's CPU Library |

Google gives nothing.
I counted 738 pins. pretty much.
The size seems to be bigger as a 486 but much smaller than a mainframe CPU.
I guess it came from an early IBM server, the holes for the screws are a hint for that too.
Something between 50 and 300 MHz.
I'd like to see the back of the chip when this giant heatsink is removed. _________________ You may use the photos I have posted here under CC BY-NC-SA license. |

Note: POWER2 chips ran at 55, 66 and 71,5 MHz. POWER2 SC ran at 135 MHz. _________________ My microprocessor collection: The Gecko's CPU Library |

Well thanks for mentioning me, but I'm puzzled about this one as well, however it might be so called Companion Unit for System 390.
Of course, Power2 is not excluded at all, although I'm not sure they used any form of PGA for these. |
