Tualatin vs. Coppermine P-III

Am I correct that a Celeron Tualatin won't work in a FC-PGA (not FC-PGA2) socket ?

My SANDRA 2004 ID's my 370 as the former.

I'm running a P-III 800EB Coppermine, 768mb RAM, Win98SE.
Upgrading to WinXP, 1.5Gb RAM + ??? CPU

you will need FCPGA->FCPGA2 adapter. Available on american eBay for 4 USD

Yep. That, and a mobo that supports Tualatin. Most do, though. There are also guides out there that show you how to do it yourself- But it's far less cost/time effective than buying an adaptor

Also, get a copy of XPLite. It streamlines XP in such a way that I can run XP on my little tiny Fiva 101 with 200MHz Cyrix and 192MB RAM. Very fun!

I have a Tualatin Celeron 1200 (256K cache) on a Abit BF6 (Slot 1 440BX). I got some Upgradeware Slot-T thinger on eBay. It's a Slot 1 to Socket 370 adapter (FCPGA2) with some jumpers to define FSB and default voltage. Works great. I can even get about 1400 MHz out of the CPU using the mobo's FSB adjustments.

I just discovered that I can run it at the min voltage the board supports (~1.25v) at its stock 1200 MHz. Runs very cool that way. I actually popped of the IHS (tricky!) and have an old socket A cooler on it (Alpha PAL6035) with the fan at 5v. I've been dreaming of sticking some copper monstrosity from my Athlon XP days on it, but they are all too wide. Heh.

I don't know if the board specifically supports a Tualatin in the BIOS. It doesn't recognize the clock speed. CPU works perfectly though.

I have one of those copper monstrosities on my PIII-1.4 which happily runs at room temp at 1.6GHz My main rig.... Outdated, but I'm saving up

Back to topic...
Some 440BX boards with Slot1 will take an FCPGA2 to FCPGA to Slot1 and just laugh at it. Trust me, I have tried! You must make sure your board supports FSB133 and proper multis.

Haha it's a stripped-down version of Windows XP Pro, also available in a "Media Center", "Vista", and "Server 2003" flavors. I've run it on ancient hardware (Below the 233MHz/256MB MIcrosoft recc. min) flawlessly and quite nicely.

You can only get it via Torrents, afaik.

Its runs very nicely on my main machine- a P3/1.4 with 512MB PC133. I can even play some newer games!
