Prices for all Athlon 64, Athlon 64 X2, Athlon 64 FX and Sempron processor dropped significantly, in some cases were cut almost by half:

Athlon 64 X2 6000+ is now $241! Now I can get some cheap dual-core Athlon 64 for my second computer

WOW with big "W" !
Someone is afraid of something. AMD is in very bad situation with actual offer. New price politic is good if they think to stay a live in markets.
Athlon 64 X2 5600+ is same as FX-62 and same as Opteron 1220 !! One month ago these last CPUs costed around 600-700 USD. I will say again WOW !!
PS. Great to hear that Gshv you are with AMD _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

Maybe they want to get rid of stock of old processors before they release new ones?

From my 4 computers three have AMD chips - Athlon XP, Sempron 64 and Athlon 64. I also have one Dell with Pentium 4.

I hope so. Don't want to see AMD fall. I don't like this company as "friend". They don't help me in anything but they are rival of biggest manufacturer. Competition between them = great prices for us
In my home there is only one PC on Intel - my mum work on John's Prescott ES lol _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

Here in Italy they still didn't lower the prices as expected.
But we are great at rising soon...
A sempron isn't bad for 30 dollars, you can have a system (cpu+mb+mem) for well under 100.
Budget is going as a password in Amd's marketing department? |

| They still haven't dropped the price on the opteron 185 to a decent level and you can't even find a 4800 anymore. I would like an upgrade for my socket 939 board but it is just not looking like that will ever be cost effective. Heck, the faster socket AM2's are $100 cheaper. I feel a bit abandoned on the socket 939 board. Why bother releasing a socket for 6 months only to drop it and never make another processor for it. If I had known their intention was to stop upgrade support a few months after the initial release of the socket I never would have bought it. They still make chips for the socket 754 and it has been old tech for years. Makes me frustrated. |

FDIV I have 939 too, we are doomed.
A 3000+ Venice core still sells for 40-45€ when you find them, X2 are sold on ebay because they cash better. I've seen 200€ for a 4200+ X2, more than Am2!!! |

| I think it will end up like the 1400mhz tualtins. I sold one of those a few months ago for $75. An equivilant speed socket 478 P4 is worth $10 if you are lucky. It is two bad. Other than their abandonment of it the socket 939 is not a bad platform. I just wish they would price the 100 series opterons fairly instead of charging twice as much for the operton nameplate. It is rediculous. No one uses them in servers anyway. They don't even use registered ram. |
