Just a note here about the NS 486. There was discussion when one was put on eBay described as ES. They are not ES. The ES before the datecode is an internal code, it is not an indicatior of it being ES.

A picture was posted in the thread (in the auctions area) of a real ES version of it (I'm about to run out of online time for today, or I'd find the link...).

There was a concensus that I am wrong, although the dates in the datasheets would indicate that if they only ever produced ES versions, they did so for a long period of time (a few years), and having now seen a picture of an ES I hope this post doesn't get deleted like all my posts previously trying to educate people about this one chip did.

Please remember - it is not only Intel who use 2-letter combinations to mean something other than what the majority assume them to mean.

Disclaimer: If this message offended or upset anyone, that is not my intention. My intention, as is the case for others here, is only to offer information that not everyone either knows or has access to.

I`m sorry I don`t passed a comment
earlier to the infamous NS486. I didn`t know
they are definitive not ES so I only highlightened
"ES" to show it could possibly be an engineering sample.
What might be a fair price for it?

There was a group buy at http://www.cpu-world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2954&highlight=ns486sxf, with the chips selling for $12 / €10 (NOS). As the chips are uncommon (or at least appear to be) I would be hesitant to comment on a value for a damaged example (I don't personally collect most chips if damaged so hopefully someone else would be able to comment on this...)

Hi Debs,
thanks for the informations. I offered it to Tim at
3.- Euro now, I think this is a reasonable price for it.
By the way this money will go directly to Vinicio because
I offered it here for him - we traded some chips
but it seems the postmen played a little bit rugby
and he sent me a second one... only as information
that I had no intent to cheat with apparently ES`s Wink
